  1. August 4, 2017 These Four Construction Projects Have Civil Engineering Firms Excited New Orleans is no stranger to road bumps. As one might expect, Hurricane Katrina put a damper on the city’s development, and the last decade was devoted to rehabilitating The Big Easy. 1

  2. However, the worst has come to pass and development has begun picking up again. Nowhere is this more evident than in the growing number of construction projects going on in the city. The huge influx of capital in the city signals investors’ confidence in New Orleans’ prospects. As civil engineering firms in New Orleans point out, there are many—and varied—developments happening all over the city. Take a look at the most promising ones rising in this city today. A New Movie Studio Rises While Hollywood remains the film capital of the world, New Orleans seeks to take a slice out of the lucrative film-making industry with the construction of a new movie lot in the city. Located along Old Gentilly Road, Starlight Studios is a 12-acre facility with four sound stages and top-of- the line equipment. Two of the aforementioned sound stages have already been completed and when it becomes fully operational, it will provide employment for about 200 people. Bell School Gets a Facelift Hurricane Katrina left the Bell School a mere shell of what it once was. Thankfully, the building will get a second lease on life when it is converted into a housing complex. The project shall be renamed Artspace Bell Campus, and will operate as a 79-unit housing complex by the end of the year. The $37.4 million project was spearheaded by Artspace, a non-profit organization that seeks to create low-cost residences for low- and moderate-income artists and their families. An Old Museum Gets a New Wing Aside from being home to Mardi Gras, New Orleans is also home to the National WWII Museum. Over the last few years, the museum has raised some $286 million to improve and expand its facilities. The project, dubbed Capital Expansion, will include the renovation of the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, additional exhibit spaces, and the construction of a new entrance. Meanwhile, planned constructions will include a liberation pavilion, The Hall of Democracy and Bollinger Canopy of Peace. A New Standard of Luxury Rises A new project is set to redefine the luxury real estate market in New Orleans. Eleven Hundred Annunciation is a $70 million mixed-use condominium that will have 16 stories and house 86 2

  3. units. It’s been reported that the units here will measure 740 to 3,000 square feet, and each one will have its very own balcony.
