  2. Deck Builder Richmond VA Adding a deck to your home gives you a great outdoor space for entertaining, cooking out or relaxing. A wooden deck increases your property value, too. LHC Services has been building decks in the Richmond, Virginia area, including Midlothian, Chesterfield, and Powhatan for almost 20 years, and we’re proud of the creative, quality decks we’ve installed.

  3. HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR DECK MATERIAL The material you choose for your new deck will affect how long it lasts and how much you’ll need to do to maintain it. You have a variety of options including hardwood, softwood, modified wood, and composites. Hardwood Hardwood comes from broad-leafed trees that are slow growing like teak, cherry or oak. Tropical hardwoods with limited availability include Ipe, Cumaru, Tigerwood, and Massaranduba.  • Hardwood decks tend to be very weather-resistant and long-lasting but need annual washing and occasional sealing to maintain their appearance. • Hardwood durability carries a heftier price tag than other material, with tropical hardwood up to three times more expensive. • Some hardwoods, mainly tropical woods, are difficult to find. Deforestation of these rarer woods is not controlled, making them less popular among customers looking for sustainably-managed deck wood.

  4. SOFTWOOD Softwoods are from faster-growing trees such as Pine, Fir, Spruce, Cedar, and Redwood. Pressure-treated wood is a type of softwood (typically pine) that has been infused with chemicals to make it moisture- and bug-resistant. • Softwood or pressure-treated softwood is less expensive than hardwood; both have reasonable durability. HARDWOOD Hardwood comes from broad-leafed trees that are slow growing like teak, cherry or oak. Tropical hardwoods with limited availability include Ipe, Cumaru, Tigerwood, and Massaranduba.
