  1. When Should You Contact An Attorney – After an Accident & Injury? You or someone near to you may have been involved in an accident in which injuries were incurred because of someone else’s fault. Perhaps you have just arrived home after emergency room care, a hospital stay, or visit to your doctor’s office. It may have been a car accident or a slip and fall in a store or other accident. Perhaps you have just received a telephone call from the representative of the insurance company for the other driver or the owner of the premises where you fell. The caller may want to record the telephone call with you, may ask you how the accident happened, may ask how you are doing or if you are still treating, and may even ask you to sign some form or a written statement. Perhaps you have just received a letter from your own health insurer or Medicare inquiring about your accident and whether someone else is responsible for the accident, and whether you have an attorney. When should you contact an attorney? It is always important to understand your rights and obligations and what steps may be beneficial to you if that nagging seemingly minor injury from the accident continues to bother you or is later determined to be something more serious than initially thought. At Hage Hodes, PA we will talk with you in a free initial consultation about what you should be considering in order to fully protect your rights and interest. It may be beneficial to consider retaining an attorney soon after an accident in order to better maximize your opportunity to obtain full and fair compensation for the injuries and damages you incur because of someone else’s fault. Whether you retain an attorney soon after your accident or months later on, it is important to focus on obtaining reasonable and necessary medical care and then following through on the valued recommendations of medical doctors. As an injured party, you have an obligation to mitigate damages and necessary medical care documents your injuries. It is important to take steps to preserve all evidence and document the conditions that led to your accident. It is easy to take photos of the accident scene with your phone, including spills or defects on the floor of the store, tire tread marks left on or along the roadway, the vehicles or equipment involved in the accident, initial wounds and bruises (no matter how small), and evidence of invasive medical treatment and used medical appliances and devices. It is important to keep all receipts for related expenses and losses and the time you lost from work, even if your employer continues to pay you during your time off. It is important that your own automobile insurer to be notified of the accident and/or any claims you may have for benefits that you have paid for by your car insurance premium payment, including medical payments, uninsured motorist benefits, underinsured motorist benefits. Some accident reports required by law must be timely made.

  2. At Hage Hodes, PA we have a team of lawyers, legal assistants, and a nurse consultant who is experienced in representing accident victims, and guiding them through the claim process to attain full and fair compensation for their injuries and damages. Most of these claims are handled on a contingency fee basis in which you pay for attorney fees (as compared to expenses) only out of any recovery by way of settlement or judgment. A written fee agreement is always prepared and any options for retaining an attorney are reviewed with you.
