Sometimes the summers are so hot the grass catches on fire. The fires are very dangerous because they spread through the dry grass very quickly. Every year there is ten to thirty inches of rain during the winter. Some of the animals are lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, kangaroos, mice, and snakes. Tall grasslands have tall grass that can grow up to 5 feet tall. Grasslands are sometimes called prairies, savannahs, and steppes.
The tropical rainforests are the richest source of life on earth. It is a treasure chest of plant and animal life. Millions of animals, birds, and insects live in the tropical rainforest. Living things love to live in this environment because they can find all the food they need. They can also find the habitat they need to make a home and raise their young. The mammals that live there are mice, bats, squirrels, sloth, chimpanzees, and more.
