  1. GEORGE GALLEGO is a Hero for young people with disabilities GEORGE GALLEGO is the founder and CEO of Wheels of Progress. He has lived with a spinal cord injury since 1992. A freak accident at the age of 23 ended George's carefree lifestyle of playing ball, skiing, swimming and camping. The former circulation manager of a major newspaper fell the equivalent of three stories after stumbling through a railing at a Manhattan warehouse.

  2. Competing Nationally and Internationally • For the past 4 years he has been a world-class athlete competing in triathlons around the world. • He mentors at Mount Sinai Hospital and other institutions where young persons with SCI are "housed" temporarily or even permanently. In 2009, George became the president of the New York Chapter of the Spinal Cord Injury Association.
