  1. A MORE ABOUT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS

  2. SYNOPSIS

  3. HEATING AND COOLING  Central Heating and Cooling Systems  This is the standard technique for heating and cooling. In this case, warm air or cool air is produced in one central location and then gets distributed all through the home. As a result, you will get a number of systems working as the central heating and cooling systems. These are the traditional split systems and the packaged product systems.  Local Heating and Cooling Systems  These are the systems producing warm air or cool air for the specified area and within a small space. The main products, in this case, are room air conditioners and the duct-free split cooling and heating systems.  Heating  The heating system plays a vital role in keeping any home comfortable and warm. A good example is when it comes to areas with a cold climate. In these areas, you will find that a heating system is highly prioritized.  Cooling  Here you will find the air conditioning systems relying on the ducts for the delivering of cooled air in your home. These central systems are responsible for the provision of humidity control, heating control, cooling, and ventilation in your home. The air conditioning systems are the ones used for the cooling of refrigerators such freon refrigerant and puron refrigerant.

  5. HOW TO INSTALL AN AC UNIT  Follow the manufacturer’s instructions: The instructions that are given to install the device are given for a reason. Remember to follow every instruction outlined to the fullest extent of the manual. If there is something that is difficult to understand, never be afraid to call an HVAC professional for assistance. Make sure to gather all required equipment outlined in the manual in order to make sure the process goes smoothly.  Choose a spot to place your AC unit: The central unit is often where the air will come from when the air conditioner is turned on. So the homeowner must choose the best place to put the central air unit outdoors. The unit needs to be placed in an area that is on level ground so that the unit won’t move. It is important to make sure the unit does not absorb a huge amount of sunlight. The unit must also be placed close to an electrical unit that will allow the unit to be turned on and off if need be. The unit must be placed further away from any area where water can damage it. For safety reasons the unit must be placed away from any other electric or gas devices. Make sure there is enough space between the AC unit and the wall of the home. This will allow you to tinker with it once the process is completed.  Cut a small hole in the wall of the home: A small hole must be cut into the wall of the home near the outside air condensing unit to enable wires and tubes to be run through the home. Run wires through the main electrical panel in the home. Afterwards the tubes are to be run towards the furnace. Remember to have an object or a marker which can be used as a point of reference.

  6. HOW TO INSTALL AN AC UNIT  Cut an opening in the side of the supply plenum: The supply plenum is located at the top of the furnace. The opening is made in order to mount the evaporator coil inside.  Install line set: The line set is made up of two refrigerant line sets that connect the condensing lines to the evaporator coil.  Prepare high voltage connections: An electrical connection must be made between the electric circuit panel in your home and the air condensing unit outdoors. You can prepare the wiring for hookup, but a skilled contractor is required to install the high and low voltage wiring as a precaution.  Install a drainage tube: Use a drain connector tube in order to hook up your draining tube to the evaporator coil. This will allow water that hardens to empty into a floor drain.  Keep it simple: Do what you are fully capable of doing without risk of making any mistakes that could damage your AC or your home. If there’s anything that you can’t do, allowing a contractor to handle the rest makes the most sense.  Have a contractor take a look at it: A contractor should be the first person to look over the work to make sure the installation has gone well.

  7. SIGNS THAT YOUR FURNACE NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED  Lack of Maintenance  Similar to owning a car, if the furnace isn’t getting regular maintenance done it won’t last very long. A furnace requires that a certified HVAC professional inspect the furnace as often as once a month.  The Furnace Stops Working  If the furnace just stops working that is usually a tell-tale sign that a repair may be needed. The usual reason why a furnace stops working is because the filter is clogged with dirt and debris. If the furnace filter is clogged then the furnace may shut off and the heat exchanger may be damaged as well.  Old Furnace  Sometimes older homes may need any number of things repaired. The furnace might be one of them. One of the signs that can determine if a furnace needs repair is just by the looks of it. Does it looks like it has gone through a huge amount of wear and tear? Does it look like it’s going to fall apart at any given moment?  The Furnace Smells like Gas  When the device smells like the exact same thing that is fuelling it, that is a sign of a leak. When a furnace smells like gas, it is leaking. This is a sign that a repair needs to take place. If your furnace exchanger begins to leak your home can be in for all sorts of problems.  Pilot Light Color Changes  Similar to a smoke detector, a car or just a computer screen, when there is an issue the pilot light will change colors. When the furnace is working fine the pilot light should be the color blue. Generally when there is a ventilation problem with a furnace the pilot light will turn yellow.

  8. HOW TO ENJOY THE HEAT AND AVOID THE FIRE - A GUIDE TO REPAIRING YOUR FURNACE  Check the Thermostat  Repairing your furnace can be a easy task if you start with the basics. The first thing you should check is the thermostat itself. If it is in the off position, this would stop your furnace from turning on when needed and functioning correctly. In this case it is a simple matter to adjust the switch to the on position to resolve the trouble.  Check the Breaker Box  If the thermostat is already in the on position but your furnace is still not working correctly remember to check the source of power! Most of the time this will be your breaker box but some thermostats have their own internal batteries that may need to be replaced. Once you have determined that the thermostat and power source are both turned on, it’s time to move on to the furnace itself.  Check Air Filters  Frequently the air filter is the source of the issue. If the air filter gets clogged it can prevent air from flowing correctly through the furnace and your home. There are also safety mechanisms inside most newer furnaces that will force the machine to power off if a clogged filter is detected. Be sure to check your filter regularly and replace it when it appears dirty. How often you should change your air filter varies depending on the size of the filter and whether there are pets in the home, so check your specific filter for replacement suggestions. You can also check that the safety switch on the door of your furnace is not obviously damaged or broken as that can also prevent it from turning on if the heat or pressure get too high.

  9. FURNACE INSPECTION  Blower meter, wheel, and housing- Inspection and cleaning of the blower meter, wheel and housing are very necessary for furnace maintenance. The experts inspecting the furnace should ensure these furnace parts are in good shape and are very clean to ensure effective working of the furnace  Lubrication of the blower meter- This applies to the old models of the furnace. After lubrication of the blower meter, the belt should be checked and restored if there is a need to. Lubrication of the blower meter would ensure smooth functioning of the furnace.  Combustion blower should also be checked- The procedure involves inspecting the combustion blower to look for any obstructions and lint. The combustion tower should also be cleaned effectively.  Gas furnace- In gas furnaces, inspection of any gas leakages is an important step that must be undertaken. If there are any leakages, the broken parts should be sealed immediately to stop further gas leakages.  Checking of the evaporator coil- The furnace’s evaporator coil should be checked and if necessary replaced. This would ensure effective working of the system.  Electrical system- During the inspection, checking of the electrical system is a vital procedure that must be done. The electrical system of a furnace entails control box, wiring, and connections. The electrical system should be checked during every inspection.  Checking of the Flue system- In the flue system, a good connection should be ensured. Inspection for any occurrence of corrosion should also be done.

  10. FURNACE MAINTENANCE  Always Observes Early Maintenance  One of the factors that is likely to cause the spontaneous failure of your furnace is the coldest nights. However, you are capable of preventing this using a proactive approach whereby you carry out the maintenance of the furnace at least once in a year.  A quick Visual Inspection  Administering of the eye test is the best tip before working on your furnace. One thing you need to check in this case is the venting pipe. Ensure that it is securely fastened and angled. Also, check the fastening of the other tubes like the drainage tubes. This should be securely fastened. This is also the time to check for the chances of gas leaking. A smell of a rotten egg is an indication of this.  Thermostat Wire Inspection  After shutting off power and removing the doors of the furnace, start the maintenance process by giving the wires of your furnace a slight pull. This is the only way you will realize if they are fitted tightly and properly.

  11. FURNACE MAINTENANCE  Using Soft-Tipped Paint Brush to Remove Dust  There are high chances of your furnace to fail to work or work sub-optimally as a result of dirt, debris, and dust. Avoiding this needs you to apply a paint brush against the interior parts of the furnace. This can be made possible using the soft-tipped paint brush. This is a safe way of removing the furnace debris and dust without any damage to its interior components.  Cleaning of the Flame Sensor  Your furnace is likely to fail working due to a dirty flame sensor. Therefore, cleaning of this sensor should be conducted at least once in a year. Always use an emery cloth every time when cleaning it.  Always consider going for a Professional for Furnace Maintenance  If you are uncomfortable with handling any of the furnace maintenance always consider going for a professional. This is difficult task mostly when you lack the mechanical experiences.

  12. COMMON BOILER PROBLEMS AND FIXES  Can get hot water but the heater doesn’t work  One of the most common problems homeowners will run into is the fact that the boiler will produce hot water but will fail to warm up the house. The issue has to do with a specific setting on the boiler, or a valve on the boiler is most likely broken.  Simple fix  Find the boiler valve that is broken, which generally will have a label on it. Once the boiler valves are located the next step is to find the zone valves. After the zone valves are found the next step is to turn all of the thermostats in the house. This will indirectly open up all the valves. The final step is to check around the house to see which valves are open or shut. The valve that is closed is the one that needs to be replaced. The next step is to shut off the boiler completely. Remove whatever electrical connections to the boiler’s valve motor using a screwdriver. After removing the connections, the next step is to replace the broken valve with another one. Make sure the valve fits in the correct place.  The boiler is leaking  A boiler leak can happen for a variety of reasons. A basic reason could be that the valve pressure is too high. The boiler may be a little too old and cracks could be causing the leak. The seals on the boiler pump could come loose. One of the common signs that the boiler is leaking is a loss of pressure.

  13. COMMON BOILER PROBLEMS AND FIXES  Simple fix  A boiler repair technician may be able fix the problem depending on the severity of the damage done to the boiler. A temporary fix would be to locate the leak and use a cement or tape-like solution to cover the damaged area. Depending on the amount of damage done, the boiler may have to be replaced.  Boiler making gurgling sounds  The boiler making gurgling sounds is a result of water pressure or something blocking the valve. Sometimes air is blocking the valve. The boiler may struggle to start, and certain parts of the house might not be getting heat. These are all signs that something is wrong with the boiler.  Simple fix  Take the steps to cool the pipes around the boiler that might have frozen over using a heated rag. If the boiler has a reset option it might defrost the frozen pipes for you.
