What is a PAN card? • Permanent Account Number or PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric and unique identification number. • It is issued to a tax-paying person, company or non-resident Indian or anyone who pays taxes in India. • It serves as identity proof for various tasks like opening a bank account, filing tax returns or making large financial transactions. • It is issued by Indian Income Tax Department and has a lifetime validity.

Uses of a PAN Card PAN card is required : • While filing the income tax return. • For opening a new bank account, demat account, foreign currency purchases etc. • To apply for Credit Card, Bank loan, etc. • While making large financial transactions of more than ₹50,000 towards bank deposits. • To carry out sale and purchase transactions of house property, shares, etc.

  4. How to apply for a PAN card? • You can apply online for the PAN card on the NSDL website. • NSDL is an authority to issue PAN card and make changes or corrections in the PAN card, if required. .

  5. Step 1: Fill and Submit the online form • Visit NSDL website (1). • Form 49 A is for Indian citizens and NRIs and Form 49AA is for foreign citizens. • Select the form of your preference. • Fill in your details and submit the form.

  6. Step 2: Payment of application fees • For Indian communication address fee is ₹ 110 (Proceeding fee ₹ 93 + GST @ 18%)  and ₹ 1020/- [(Application fee ₹ 93 + Dispatch charges ₹ 771) + GST @ 18%] if communication address is outside India. • Payment of application fee can be made through cheque, credit/debit card, demand draft or net-banking. • Cheque / DD should be in the favour of NSDL – PAN.

  7. Step 3: Documents to be sent to NSDL • Applicant is required to send the supporting documents through courier/post to NSDL. • Documents include one proof of identity, one proof of address and one proof of date of birth. • Here is a complete list of documents (2).
