What Causes a Gas Control Valve to Fail? The most common cause of a gas control valve failing is aging. As it ages, it may become less reliable and fail to open or close in response to changes in gas pressure. Occasionally, it will fail due to a mechanical defect. Another rare cause of failure is corrosion of the valve's internals. When a control valve fails, gas can flow uncontrolled through the pipeline. How to Properly Use a Gas Control Valve? A gas control valve, also known as a flapper valve, is a valve that allows gas to flow in and out of a container. It is used in gas lines and gas ranges. ● To use it, first determine the type of valve that needs to be used. There are two types of valves: horizontal and vertical. Horizontal valves are used in gas lines, and vertical valves are used in gas ranges. Next, determine the type of gas that needs to be controlled. There are three types of gases: natural gas, propane, and butane. Finally, determine the connection between the gas control valve and the gas lines or range. The connection can be through an attached hose, or it can be a gas line connection. Now that the necessary information has been gathered, it is time to use it. To open the valve, first, locate the handle. Then slide the handle to the desired position and press it down. Locate the handle and slide it to the opposite position to close the valve. Then press the handle down. ● ● ● How to Test a Gas Control Valve? Today, we’ll show you how to test a gas control valve. This is useful if you are ever servicing or rebuilding gas appliances. First, gather your tools. You will need a flexible spanner, a socket wrench, a screwdriver, and a hammer. Next, locate the gas control valve. It will likely be on the wall near the gas appliances. Step 1: Disconnect the supply line to the gas valve. You will need to use the socket wrench to take the screws out of the supply line. Make sure to label the screws with a piece of tape so you can re-install them correctly. Step 2: Turn the valve off by turning the knob to the off position. Step 3: Remove the valve. It will be screwed onto the wall in several locations in most models. Use the hammer and screwdriver to remove the screws. Step 4: Remove the valve from the wall. It should come off relatively easily. Step 5: Position the valve on a flat surface. The easiest way to do this is to place it on some wood blocks.

Step 8: Use the universal joint type head of the socket wrench to turn the valve handle. Make sure it is turned to the left or right. Step 9: Test the gas control valve by turning on the gas. If the valve works properly, the gas will flow from the supply line and into the appliance. If the valve does not work, there may be a problem with the valve or the line. Step 10: Test the line by putting a lighter into the appliance. If the flame blows out, the line is not properly connected. If the flame stays inside the appliance, the line is properly connected.
