Background (1) Characteristics • Microenterprises have a significant role in building a financially self-sufficiency community • Microenterprises absorb considerable number of employment • Non-formal and Transitory • Low Productivity/ low education level/ skill Challenges • There are still many microenterprises that have no access to financial services and information. • Difficulties in finding the good quality of input due to small scale of production and failures in adopting technology. • Limited ability to overcome institutional problems

Background (2) Determinants for Success Microenterprises’ success depends on many factors: • business environment, including local and central government regulations • access to financial services and information • the quality of microcredit providers • The quality of the entrepreneurs The needs for Improvement (2005) • Citibank has a program through the “Citigroup Microentrepreneur of the Year” which will be developed in Indonesia in 2005. • UNCDF has a program to enhance microenterprises awareness and performance through the “International Year of Microcredit 2005”

Objectives • To win the support of investor and donors by highlighting talents and contribution of micro-enterprises; • To create the next generations of micro finance network, comprising political and financial leaders, opinion shapers, student, practitioners and communities; • To raise awareness of microfinance particularly among micro entrepreneurs who could benefit from it.

Scope of Work 2004 • Microentrepreneur Awards At national level, achievement awards and prizes will be granted to the following recipients: • Microentrepreneurs Awards (3) • Paper Awards Achievement awards and prizes will be granted to the following recipients • Academic Paper (3) • Journalism (3)

Scope of Work 2005 • Microentrepreneur Awards At national level, achievement awards and prizes will be granted to the following recipients: • Microentrepreneurs Awards (3) • No Paper Awards • If Microentrepreneur winner is chosen, the loan officer and the Micro Finance Institution is automatically chosen
