Context Sensitive Solutions CSS is a collaborative approach to developing and redesigning transportation facilities that fit into their physical and humanenvironment while preserving the aesthetic, historic, community, and natural environmental values.  CSS contributes to community, safety, and mobility. Equals => involving the community and the players to complete projects right the first time

  4. Implementation Strategies - • Partner with state DOTs and state/federal resource agencies • Provide guidance and training • Fund Web Site / Resources • Support Individual State Efforts • Coordinate with Universities and Consulting Community

  5. Implementation Strategies – cont’d • Guidance and training • Peer to peer exchanges • Share best practices and case studies • Encourage the development of new technologies

  6. Criteria • There is a written CSS commitment and/or policy • Technical staff is trained in CSS approach • Most projects are being implemented using CSS • There is early, continual, and interactive public involvement • Interdisciplinary teams are involved throughout life of project
