  1. Work Rights in Canada You can work in Canada along with your studies, under any Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s (CIC’s) work programmes meant for students. You can work on or off-campus for up to 20 hours during semesters and full-time during breaks. International students can work in Canada during the course of study under any one of the following categories: On campus without a Work Permit: An international student can work on campus without a work permit during their studies if: oThe student is registered as a full-time student at a public institution (college, university, CEGEP). oThe student is registered as a full-time student at a private institution that works under the same set of rules and regulations as a public institution, and are government aided (gets at least 50% of its financing from government grants) or authorised by Canadian provincial statute to grant degrees. oThe student has a study permit.

Off campus with a Work Permit: An international student can work off-campus with a work permit during their studies if: oThe student is registered as a full-time student at a participating publicly funded institution or in an approved programme at an eligible privately funded institution. oThe student works up to 20 hours per week during normal academic sessions, and full time during scheduled breaks (winter, summer or spring break). oThe student also needs a Social Insurance Number (SIN) from Service Canada Centre to work in Canada or to receive benefits and services from government programmes. oThe student has a study permit. In, Cooperative educationprogrammes with a Work Permit: In this programme, work experience is part of the curriculum. The study permit is flexible. It is possible to apply for a status change if certain conditions mentioned in the study permit can no longer be fulfilled. If you lose your status as a student in Canada or you fail in fulfilling any of the conditions mentioned afterwards, you have 90 days at your disposal to apply for your document restoration.
