  2. Funny and Strange Dog Habits: We love our adorable pooch and try to know everything about them, isn’t it? Be it their emotions, feelings, habits, like, dislikes or anything else. However, some of their activities are completely bizarre and perplexes us.  Consider these examples – pooch eating its own poop, jerking the legs in strange movements when you give them a belly rub, circling before settling down for potty, sitting on our clothes when left alone etc. The list is endless. In this blog, we shall learn the explanations for such strange behavior and activities. Here we go!

  3. Dog Eating its own Poop? At times, dog eating its own poop can be embarrassing, especially in front of a guest. It also makes us wonder, why despite giving nutritious and healthy diet, dog eats its own poop? The answer to this age old strange habit lies in their historical evolution.  The poop is actually rich in nutrients, and when dogs were scavengers, it was one of their source of nutrient intake. However, poop eating may also be signs of malnutrition. Otherwise, it’s fairly common and just a strange old dog habit.   Why your Dog suddenly Starts Running? Colloquially, when your pooch gets a sudden burst of energy and starts running madly, it’s called “Zoomies”. It happens as and when your dog gets filled with uncontrollable happiness! They literally run hither and titer because they can’t contain joy in their hearts.  My Pomeranian exhibits Zoomies on – getting new toys, having chicken as feed, seeing a close relative after a long time etc. It lasts from couple of seconds to even few minutes. It’s adorable and pure pleasure to watch their “Zoomies”.

  4. Why your Pooch Kicks the Legs when you Scratch their Belly? All pooch love belly rubs and they jerk their legs in strange and sporadic movements, when you tickle their belly, known as scratch reflex.  The scratch reflex has historical evolution, to enable them get rid of irritants. As you scratch their belly, the nerve under the spinal cord gets activated. And they simply love it!  You must have observed that as you pamper your pooch, it sometimes lays down, with belly exposed. It means they are eagerly waiting for you to rub their bellies.   Why do dogs howl, bark or move their legs in their sleep? Dogs too dream, like humans. Usually, in very intense dream they show certain movements and activities including – barking, howling, moving their legs etc.

  5. Other similar examples of strange activities include: Dog sticking with your cloth as you go on vacation, work etc: This is because dogs suffer from separation anxiety. So, next time you leave him alone, try leaving some clothing with him that you’ve worn. It’s been proven that the scent you leave behind on your clothes helps ease the dog’s separation anxiety. Your pooch carefully choosing place for potty: They carefully choose the perfect place to do their business, because they prefer to go poop in alignment with the Earth’s magnetic field! Your pooch loses from female counterpart despite being physically stronger: When playing with female puppies, male puppies often let them win, even if they have a physical advantage. Why your dog curls up in a ball when they sleep: It’s actually an age-old instinct to keep themselves warm and to protect vital organs while they sleep. Conclusion: Dogs are one of the most adorable, lively and fun loving creatures. Their strange and bizarre activities, though perplexing at times, add to their cuteness!
