  1. Language Immersion by Residence Abroad organised by the Language Center, HKUST

  2. Objective • To provide students with the opportunity to enrol on a English language course in a foreign country, and to live with an English-speaking host family • open to all full-time first-year undergraduates during the academic year 2009-10. • destinations are New Zealand, South Africa

  3. Charges The deposit of $6,500 will be refunded on your return, subject to conditions.

  4. What’s included • Travel costs (airfare and taxes) • Half-board accommodation on weekdays • Full-board accommodation on weekends • Transport to and from the airport • Language classes (15 hours per week) • Organised activities and excursions • Certificate of Attendance

  5. What’s not included • Passport and visa fees • Lunches each weekday • Travel insurance • Personal expenses

  6. When do we go? New Zealand 10th – 24th January, 2010 South Africa 10th – 24th January, 2010 (arrive Hong Kong next day)

  7. Restrictions • You will be travelling on a group ticket. Everyone must travel together. • The group will be accompanied by a teacher from the Language Center. • No changes of times or dates are allowed. • No extensions of stay are allowed.

  8. Before you leave • You will be assigned to a language school. • You will be put in touch with your host family. When you arrive • The school will require you to take a short placement test.

  9. Programme schedule • Weekdays (Monday to Friday) • 3 hours per day of language class in a specialised language school • activities • Weekends (Saturday) • excursion • Weekends (Sunday) • free
