  2. Capsular Contracture This is one of the most problematic complications associated with breast augmentation. Scar tissue develops around the implant inside the body. Discomfort, pain, and tenderness can all result, as well as an issue with appearance: an affected breast will appear too round or pushed up.

  3. Lower the risks It is known that if you put the implant under the muscle and perhaps if you use a textured implant, the risk of capsular contracture can be lower. Bleeding can be a trigger for capsular contracture, therefore minimizing it can reduce the risk. The instruments and techniques applied during surgery can also help lower the risk.

  4. Instruments: Fiber-optic breast retractor A light source is attached on one end and the light travels through the instrument, coming out at the bottom The retractor part of the instrument allows the surgeon to insert it into a very small incision, lift up and look inside the breast to see exactly what he is doing.

  5. Instruments: Unipolarelectrocautery forceps This is a foot activated device that can be turned on and off during the surgery. The device sends electricity down to the tips, the rest of it is isolated. Using it, the surgeon can do the whole pocket dissection. • Advantages: • it is bloodless and atraumatic; • if a blood vessel is ruptured, bleeding is stopped by cauterizing it.

  6. What not to do Blunt Dissection: - make an incision;- find the muscle;- get your finger under there or put in some big instrument and break everything inside. That’s very traumatic and it causes a lot of bleeding.

  7. Post-op instructions • After the surgery you have to: • restrict your activity levels because you can do something that could cause bleeding which might lead to capsular contracture; • avoid the gym or other vigorous physical activities for 3 weeks; • avoid lifting anything heavy for 6 weeks.

  8. Bloodless VS Traditional Breast Augmentation There’s nothing necessarily wrong with traditional breast augmentationtechniques but the bloodless breast augmentation is safer. In traditional breast augmentation the surgeon will make the incision, find the muscle, will get underneath that muscle, get the finger or a big instrument in there and open up the pocket. This way a lot of bleeding and trauma are caused and those factors could lead to capsular contracture. Bloodless breast augmentation is used specifically to try to minimize one of the biggest complications with breast augmentation: capsular contracture.
