  4. Preheat:- This is a very important prerequisite. All you need to ensure is that you heat the proper over low to medium flame. If you are using a thermometer, you can ensure that the preheating temperature reaches 450 Fahrenheit. Add beans:- You can start by pouring in approximately 8 ounces of coffee beans. Make sure that the beans are spread evenly all across the pot. Once the beans are in, the temperature will slide down to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Source: How to roast coffee beans without roaster?

  5. Start roasting:- You may now close the lid and the beans start to roast. This stage takes a bit of time and in order to get best results, make sure that you don’t rush it. Stirring at this stage is directly proportional to the quality of the roast. So, the more you stir the beans, the better the roast will be. But, make sure that you do not open the lid of the container very frequently otherwise the heat will escape. Browning:- Few minutes after the above stage has taken place, you will see a colour change in the coffee beans. This will further cause a greasy smell from the coffee beans. 6. Cracking of beans:- Approximately after 20 minutes into the browning, you will hear the first crack. This will be identified by looking at the smoke, which will be coming out of the beans. This smoke will be accompanied by a chocolatey aroma. Once the cracking of the beans has crossed the first crack, it will reach the light roast level. If you are a fan of medium and dark roast coffee beans, then accordingly you can keep roasting further. But, if you want to stop at light roast, then this is where you need to stop the heat supply. Medium roast:- This one is particularly for the medium roast lovers. The temperature required to achieve a medium roast is approximately 430-440 Fahrenheit. As the second crack comes in, you can further turn off the heat and now you can remove the pot. Cooling:- You can open the lid now, and keep it outside so that the beans can cool down now. You can empty the pit into a metal colander. At this stage, you’ll find that the outer layer of the coffee beans starts to fall out. Source: How to roast coffee beans without roaster?
