Dry eyes mainly occur when there is an imbalance in this tear system, similar to if you don’t produce enough tears or if you produce poor-quality tears. Dry eye symptoms can be found on both eyes but mostly one eye is affected than the other. Most of the cases dry eyes can be very painful and the dryness can cause permanent damage to the front of the eye. Common Symptoms of dry eye syndrome, which usually affect both eyes, may include: Blurring of vision Itching A gritty sensation Excess tears running down the cheeks Light sensitivity Tired eyes Eyelids that stick together when you wake up This leads to the eyes drying out and becoming inflamed (red and swollen) and irritated. Feelings of dryness, grittiness or soreness that get worse throughout the day Temporarily blurred vision and usually improves when blink Excess watering We will systematically go through the many causes of dry eyes and also go through the many tests that diagnose the various types.
