  2. Regular physical activities help get rid of the mental stress from work. Professionals who exercise become more efficient at work, and this may affect their overall job satisfaction. There is a broad body of literature on physical activities and its relation to work performance. Most of these, however, focus on how exercises improve physical endurance and how it translates to not suffering tiredness or fatigue at work. A recent research study examined the professional life of 200 workers from a computer company, a life insurance firm, and a university. The participants responded to a survey about their mood, workload and performance at work during days with physical exercise and those with none.

  3. Exercise Improves Mental Performance and Interpersonal Skills The respondents performed different physical exercises they preferred. The majority of them engaged in an hour or less of aerobics, strength training, basketball and yoga during their lunch break. The type of exercise did not produce a variation in the results. Sixty-percent of the sample reported to have an improvement on their mental performance during the days they exercised. Seventy-two percent of them reported better time management during days with physical activities. The results showed that their overall work performance and productivity increased by fifteen percent. In focus group discussions, the participants said physical exercises made their mood in the workplace better. They also improved their reception of pressures and demands from work. During days with exercise, seventy-nine percent of them showed improvement in their mental and interpersonal skills. They became more tolerant towards their colleagues and had better temper.

  4. Physical Activities Boost Afternoon Energy Post-lunch dip affects the productivity of workers, as they feel drowsy or sleepy after eating lunch. The common tendency is to consume caffeine-based beverages, such as coffee. The study showed that the participants had a lower tendency of experiencing “post-lunch dip” after they exercise. Incorporating exercise on a workday proves to benefit not just the physical health, but also the work performance. Workers who engage in physical activities finish their tasks and go home feeling satisfied.
