How to Download and Install Microsoft Office Products Requested from DirectDeals For Office 2019 and newer versions, Microsoft has changed how customers can download and install Microsoft Office products and applications through Volume Licensing. They can no longer be downloaded through Microsoft 365 admin center or the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC). They can be installed using Click-to-Run technology instead of the conventional Windows Installer. By using the Office Deployment Tool (ODT), you can deploy perpetual license Office products onwards 2019 version for users in your company. However, the process can be tricky for some people. Step 1: VLSC and Software Agreement (for products with Software Assurance) If the Microsoft product that you requested comes with Software Assurance, registering at the VLSC is required. Step 2: Getting Office Product Key Get the product key from the VLSC for Microsoft products that come with Software Assurance. For products that do not come with Software Assurance, you can get it from Microsoft 365 admin center. Follow the steps below. Instructions for products with Software Assurance: 1.Go to VLSC and sign in. 2.Navigate to the Downloads and Keys tab. 3.Search your Office product and click the link for Key. 4.Look for your product key in the Key column of the table below the name of the product. The Type for this key should be MAK and not KMS. There are separate keys for online functionality like web applications. KMS product keys are not like MAK keys. They can’t be used for desktop products volume activation. 5.You can copy the individual key of the product and paste it to Notepad or a similar program. This list can be opened in Excel and contains the keys of all Volume Licenses that relate to the agreements in your VLSC account. Instructions for products without Software Assurance: 1. Go to Microsoft 365 admin center and sign in with your Microsoft account. 2. Click on Billing > Your Products in the navigation menu on the left. 3. Under Software, you will be able to see a list of products that can be downloaded. Select the product that you requested. 4. Choose the right Product version, Language, and CPU & file type from the dropdown menus on the download page. Next, click on Show activation keys to get your key. 5. Copy key to clipboard then paste it into a text document and save it. Step 3: Download Office Deployment Tool 1. Download the Office Deployment Tool (ODT) from the Microsoft website. 2. Open the file after the download is completed. Tick the box to accept the terms of the Microsoft license. Next, press Continue. 3. You will need to store the extracted setup files by selecting a folder. Go to the hard drive (C:) of your computer and press Make New Folder. Name the folder as ‘OfficeSetup’ and continue. 4. After the extraction process is completed, the new folder ‘OfficeSetup’ should contain the ‘setup’ and sample ‘configuration’ files.

  4. Step 4: Download the Configuration File The next step for Microsoft Office 2019 download for Windows 10 is to download the configuration file. You can either download the configuration file or create it using the sample ‘configuration’ file and save it in the ‘OfficeSetup’ folder. Next, follow the steps to add the product key acquired from the VLSC to the configuration file. 1. Open the configuration file in Notepad by clicking on Edit in the right-click menu. 2. You will be able to see the following text in the file: PIDKEY="#####-#####-#####-#####-#####" 3. Replace the #####-#####-#####-#####-##### with the MAK client activation key that you saved earlier. Leave the quotation marks as it is. Save and close the file. 4. Next, change the name of the file to ‘configuration.xml’. If you have IT experience you can use Microsoft's Office Customization Tool to create a more customized configuration file as per your deployment requirements. Step 5: Download and Install Your Office Product When you install a new Office product, the older versions get uninstalled automatically. It is advisable that you save any important work and close the applications. 1. Go to the ‘OfficeSetup’ folder you created in the File Explorer. 2. Perform the following steps with Command Prompt. It is a command-line interface in Windows based on text. 1. Type cmd in the address bar of File Explorer and press the Enter key.

  5. 2. The Command Prompt will open. Next, type the following: setup /download configuration.xml Your product will start downloading in the background. It might take some time as the download will be large. You will be sent back to the Command Prompt after the download is finished. 3. Now, the product can be installed. In the Command Prompt, type:

  6. setup /configure configuration.xml If it shows an error for any previously installed version of Office on your PC, uninstall them manually. You will need to type the command again. 4. After the installation process is finished, you will be sent to Command Prompt again. Close it and go to your desktop. Now the installation process is completed and your product is ready to use. 5. If you wish to install another Office product, follow the instructions from the 4th step again after deleting the ‘configuration.xml’ file.
