  1. Top 10 Digital Platforms for Uploading, Sharing and Promoting Your Music Top 10 Digital Platforms for Uploading, Sharing and Promoting Your Music The music industry has been forever transformed by the internet. Artists who have used digital technologies like file sharing and digital marketing through a variety of social media channels know this. Although this information may seem obvious, many musicians struggle to choose the right platforms online to upload, share and promote their music. Although the seemingly endless list of options can seem overwhelming, it is important to understand how to address these three issues. 1.What communities are most popular with your target audience? 2.What are their strengths (i.e., why are they so powerful)? 3.Which are the right circumstances to make them happen? With these questions in mind, I created a list of top digital music platforms that artists should know like the backs of their hands (or instruments). You will be able to navigate all the above selections with ease, increasing your chances of having your music reach a large audience and, even more important, your chances of developing an engaged fan base.

  2. 1. SoundCloud SoundCloud was founded in 2007 and continues to be one of the most popular audio distribution platforms worldwide. It attracts more than 175 million unique monthly visitors. SoundCloud is a giant in free streaming and it won’t be slowing down anytime soon. Heralded for its sociability/shareability features, a wide majority of both established major artists and rising talent turn to SoundCloud to upload their music. 3. 2. Audiomack Audiomack not too far from SoundCloud is growing as a streaming platform that’s user-friendly. Audiomack, unlike its counterpart, places a lot of emphasis on engagement and play counts. With its many trend- basedrankings, artists can measure the reach of their music. It is easy to find out the exact number of plays per week/month and what songs are trending on the “what’s trendy” homepage. Audiomack’s less restrictive copyright policies and easy-to-understand analytics make it a smart choice for independent artists looking to gain full visibility into their album’s marketing efforts. 3. iTunes Anyone who has ever listened to music in the last century knows about iTunes. iTunes is the music destination for those who believe in supporting artists financially. Apple continues to innovate as a technological giant, and even though streaming is currently the king of music consumption, music libraries for long-time iTunes users still see plenty of action. Uploading to iTunes is the best way to sell your music to fans if you are an independent musician. Although you won’t be able to make it big, brand recognition is enough to attract some fans. 4. Spotify

  4. Spotify has grown to be a powerful digital music service over the years and is now a major player in the music streaming industry. Spotify’s huge music library has made it a popular choice. Premium users can listen offline or on their mobile devices without being bombarded by advertisements. Despite all the great features that Spotify offers, I do not believe it is a necessity for independent artists. If you are looking to stream your music, SoundCloud or Audiomack would be a better choice. You will be able to provide easier access to your music for fans and save yourself some headaches. Check — upload songs on spotify for free

  5. 5. YouTube You should invest quality time and effort in creating professionally- crafted music videos if you are a rising artist. YouTube is where you can share your visuals to the world. YouTube, the video-sharing platform of the internet, has made a significant impact on indie artists. 6. Bandcamp Bandcamp is the most intriguing selection among this list. Although the website is geared towards independent musicians, it attracts a smaller following of artists and fans. Bandcamp is a website that allows artists to stream their music for free and also offers financial support. This can be a great tool for musicians who are looking to promote their music to a specific audience. 7. Vimeo YouTube is clearly the dominant player in the music video industry. Vimeo is however a close second and offers its own unique features for artists who want to shoot diverse visual content. Vimeo’s well-versed creative community allows musicians to take a more diverse route with their videos. It is not smart to move all your videos from YouTube to Vimeo. However, it is a good idea to experiment with it as you grow your fan base. 8. Tidal

  6. Tidal is still a young company, but it has made headlines in the music streaming world for the past few months. Tidal is known for offering high-quality audio/video to its users. Many fans are joining the bandwagon with the co-signing of many top artists. Many in the industry believe that Tidal is just a way for major labels to make more money from their streams. However, independent artists should continue to follow every Tidal move as it grows(especially Tidal Rise and Tidal Discovery). Tidal is not your priority right now. However, you should give it some time before making a decision about whether or not to use the platform. Must Read — How to Become a Successful Music Artist in India? 9. Google Play Google Play is less well-known than other music services, but it’s still important to not ignore one of the most influential companies in the world. It’s vital that your music is available on Google Play if you want to make your music more financially accessible to your fans. T There are many Android phone users who rely more on Google Play than iTunes. If you want your entire fanbase to be able to support your music financially, it’s important that you have a presence on Google Play. 10. Website for you

  7. All serious musicians should have a website that displays their best music, despite all the great music platforms. While you will most likely use one of these platforms to upload your tracks, it is best to have your music on all nine platforms instead of on your website. It’s better to keep your music centrally located than to throw a bunch of links at fans or the press. Keeping a website that is sharp and up-to-date is the most important thing. As you begin to attract more prominent artists to your catalog, your website will likely be their first stop. Must Read — Top Music Distribution Companies in India
