  1. Wedding Band or Wedding DJ for Your Reception - Roselyn Court Should You Have A Band or DJ for Your Wedding Reception? It’s a debate that’s as old as The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones or Microsoft vs. Apple, and one that has many brides and grooms engaged in heated debate when it comes to planning their own reception – should you opt for a wedding band or hire a DJ instead? Roselyn Court Reception Centre takes a look at both sides of the argument to help you decide. The Pros and Cons of a Wedding Band: Booking a band is typically more expensive for the simple fact that a DJ is one person while a band usually consists of at least 3 members. However, the live music element of hiring a band allows for a more personal experience rather than having a DJ playing tracks behind a booth; it creates a warmer, dynamic, and more memorable atmosphere. A band is also arguably more capable of responding to quick changes in the evening’s proceedings, for example if speeches end up being brought forward they’re often in a better position to seamlessly end a song without jarring the atmosphere. Roselyn Court has three spacious reception rooms on our premises, each of them able to accommodate a wedding band. The Pros and Cons of Hiring A DJ: One of the biggest advantages of hiring a DJ over a band is the extensive music catalogue that a DJ will have access to. It’s often far greater than what a band’s repertoire will consist of, therefore they’ll have more tools at their disposal to maintain the flow of the night. They’re also trained to make announcements, so can adopt some MC duties for the reception if need be. The biggest disadvantage depends on the DJ’s personality; if they don’t have a great one, this can really diminish the energy of the night. Roselyn Court in Essendon is a local wedding reception centre that can accommodate a wedding band or DJ depending on your preferences.
