  1. How can it be a Strong Weapon in Law Enforcement & Public Safety? Thinking of unique ways to ensure public safety can help us create a better world for all of us to inhabit. So, why is there any hesitation to ponder upon what works and what doesn’t? Current research suggests that law enforcement can use body- worn cameras to record interactions with the public or collect video evidence at crime scenes. To know how body-worn cameras can add on and restore public safety, stay tuned to what you’ll be reading. Knowing it From Sir Robert Peel In 1829, Sir Robert Peel — renowned as the father of modern policing — founded the Nine Principles of Law Enforcement, rolled to British law enforcement officers included in the general instruction’s list. Peel’s second principle reiterated, “The ability of the police to perform their duties in the name of public interest, stands for public approval of police existence, actions, the behavior of the police to keep in the name of public respect.”

  2. 200 years later, Peel’s principle still stands on its feet firmly: The ability of law enforcement to fight against crime continues to find its base in the public’s perception of the legitimacy of the act taken by officers. In the course, body-worn cameras have been seen as the most effective means to address these challenges and bring improvement in the entire law enforcement practice. The technology, which can make its way right on an officer’s eyeglasses or chest area, comes in handy to provide the necessary information. Apart from this, the other significant benefit of body-worn cameras is their skillful ability to provide law enforcement with a surveillance weapon to take officer’s safety and efficiency a notch-high. Body-Worn Cameras: Its Potential Benefits Transparency & Accountability- The first and foremost benefit of having body- worn cameras is that they can result in transparency, and this may play a big role in improving law enforcement legitimacy. In many communities, there is a sense of distrust and lack of confidence in law enforcement. Increased civility. Body-worn cameras and in-car video may result in higher rates of citizen compliance and officer commands during encounters and fewer complaints filed in the name of law enforcement. Citizens often change or modify their behavior toward officers once they are informed that the meeting is being recorded. This “civilizing effect” may prevent certain unwanted situations from soaring to levels requiring the use of force otherwise. Quicker resolution - Body-worn cameras can be a significant armament in supporting faster resolution regarding citizen complaints and lawsuits that otherwise depose excessive use of force in the play. Investigations of cases coming up with conflicting accounts of the encounter that happened between officers and citizens are often found to be “not sustained” and as a result gets closed when there is no proper evidence to support the case. This, in turn, can shade the public’s trust, reliability, and confidence in law enforcement. Therefore,

  3. video captured by body-worn cameras can be effective in collecting the facts of the encounter. Corroborating evidence. Footage captured with the help of body-worn cameras can be backed to collect evidence. Many proponents have suggested that video captured through body-worn cameras can work in favor by recording the variety of events and nature of various types of crimes taking place. Training opportunities - The use of body-worn cameras also offers golden opportunities to up-level policing through training. Law enforcement trainers and executives can keep a vigilant check on officer activities, and behavior once recorded with the help of body-worn cameras. At last, video footage can provide law enforcement executives with a golden chance to implement new tactics to better the service.
