  1. Eye Care OKC: How to Prepare for Your Eye Exam Your quality of vision can significantly impact your everyday life; as such, it is important to keep eye care OKC in mind. An essential aspect of maintaining eye health is getting a regular comprehensive exam: It is recommended for adults and school-aged children to have an eye exam every one to two years. ● Children have their first exam as early as six months old and are checked again before starting school. ● During these appointments, your eye doctor can determine your overall quality of vision and detect any eye-related diseases, even at their earliest stages. Preparing for Your Comprehensive Eye Exam There are a few things you can do to prepare for your eye exam. For example, Dr. Britton and the other professionals at BVA recommend: Keeping a Log of Your Symptoms, if Relevant If you experience blurred vision, light sensitivity, poor depth perception, or other symptoms, let your eye doctor know how frequently it occurs and its severity. This can help them determine the cause and suggest possible solutions. Making a Note of Your Current Medications Different medications may have side effects that impact vision. Tell your eye doctor about the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take, along with their dosages, so they can assess if they could affect your vision quality. Knowing Your Family’s Eye Health History Many eye conditions are hereditary, potentially increasing your risk. Tell your eye doctor if your parents, siblings, grandparents, and any other blood-related relatives have conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration. Bringing Your Glasses or Contact Lenses If you normally wear glasses or contact lenses, wear them or bring them to the appointment. Your eye doctor will evaluate your eyes with and without these to find vision changes and to determine if your current prescription is adequate.

  2. What Eye Care OKC Professional Will Conduct Your Eye Exam? There are different eye care professionals that a patient can meet with. You may meet with an opthalmologist, optometrist, or optician, depending on your needs. What Is an Ophthalmologist? An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye care. They treat eye-related medical conditions and perform surgeries, like cataract removals or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery OKC). During an appointment, they can also prescribe glasses or contact lenses. What Is an Optometrist? An optometrist is an eye doctor who prescribes glasses and contact lenses. During an appointment, they may also prescribe vision therapy or medications to treat eye diseases. They are not trained or licensed to conduct surgeries. What Is an Optician? An optician is an eye care OKC professional who can adjust, fit, or fix glasses. During an appointment, they may also teach you how to put in, remove, and care for contact lenses. They do not prescribe medications or conduct surgeries. You will meet with an ophthalmologist or optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam. What Will Happen During a Comprehensive Eye Exam? During the appointment, your eye doctor will use various tests to determine the quality of your vision and locate any potential problems. Specifically, they will evaluate: The clarity of your near and distance vision. ● Your overall depth perception. ● Your ability to follow moving objects and move between fixed objects. ● The overall structures of your eyes. ● Whether you have blind spots, color blindness, a lazy eye, or glaucoma. ●

  3. Your glasses or contact lens prescription. ● They will keep you informed on your eye health and will discuss any questions or concerns that you have. They may also recommend any necessary surgical treatments, such as laser treatments for glaucoma or eyelid surgery OKC to improve your field of vision.
