  1. Basic Concepts of Management Information Systems The field of management information systems (MIS) is ever changing and challenging. In order to survive for a long time, modern businesses need some kind of MIS to manage massive amounts of data, and there are plenty of opportunities to study or work in the field. MIS tools are at the core of the information management discipline and are often regarded as the first information age systems.  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP): This discipline ensures the integration of all departmental systems. MIS uses these connected systems to access data for reporting purposes.  • IT Management: This department supervises installation and maintenance of the MIS component hardware and software. The difference between the two has always been obscure. • E-Commerce: The activity of e- commerce provides data that MIS uses. The MIS reports based on these data also have an impact on e- commerce processes. What is Management Information Systems? MIS uses these connected systems to access data for reporting purposes.  IT Management: This department supervises installation and maintenance of the MIS component hardware and software. The difference between the two has always been obscure. E-Commerce: The activity of e- commerce provides data that MIS uses. The MIS reports based on these data also have an impact on e- commerce processes. History of MIS Kenneth and Aldrich Estel have identified six eras in the field. Categories of MIS:  The management information system is a broad term that includes many specialized systems. The following are the main types of systems: Executive Information System (EIS): EIS is used by senior management to make decisions affecting the entire organization. Managers need high- level data with the ability to perform when needed. 

  3. Marketing Information System (MkIS): MkIS is used by marketing teams to report on the efficiency of past and current campaigns and to take advantage of the lessons learned in the future. Customer Relationship Management System (CRM): A CRM system keeps key customer information, including preceding sales, contact information and sales. CRM is often used by marketing, customer service, sales and business development teams. Business Intelligence System (BIS): Business decisions are made using BIS to collect, integrate and analyse data and information. This system is similar to the EIS but is used by both managers and managers at a lower level. Other MIS are- Sales Force Automation System (SFA) Transaction Processing System (TPS) Knowledge Management System (KMS) Financial Accounting System (FAS) Human Resource Management System (HRMS)

Advantages of MIS: Some key benefits of efficient use of management information systems are:  • Management can gain an overview of their entire operation.  • Managers have an opportunity to receive feedback on their performance.  • Organizations can make the most of their investments by seeing what works and what does not work. • Managers can assess results and planned performance by identifying both plan and performance strengths and weaknesses.  • Companies can drive improvements in the workflow, which better align business processes with customer requirements.  • Many business decisions are transferred from senior management to organizational levels that are closer to where knowledge and experience lies.
