  1. MostCommon Mistakes in Biomedical SciencePersonal Statement

  2. What does Personal Statement Mean? • Biomedical science personal statement is an essay in which an applicant describes all his or her achievements, skills, abilities, experience and ambitions. It should be authentic and thoughtfully crafted. This paper gives a valuable chance for you to prove the admission committee why you are the best candidate for a position.

  3. However, lots of applicants make some mistakes which eliminate their chances to be accepted. There are the most common. • Dull opening paragraph Don’t ruin your statement with a boring opening. If you are trying to be funny and making a joke at the beginning, make sure that your humor is clever and appropriate.

  4. Lack of structure Keep your statement organized. Ideally, it should include an eye-catching beginning, engaging and informative body and convincing conclusions.

  5. Not clarifying reasons why you want to go to school Lots of students skip this part of writing because they’re persuaded that the admissions already know all of them. Of course, it is hard to come up with new ideas on reasons because they are very similar among all applicants. Nevertheless, it is essential to demonstrate your passion and interest in the chosen program.

  6. Too generic If you want to stand out from the crowd, write an original statement. Don’t compose it like other students. It is only about you so don’t be shy, let the advisors see how great you are.

  7. Clichés They are overused, uninspiring, tired, not interesting anymore and only demonstrate a lack of creativity.

  8. Spelling and grammatical errors Even if your science personal statement is so powerful and creative, but full of mistakes, tutors won’t appreciate it. Such errors are easy to spot and show that you didn’t spend your time on proofreading. Ask a friend or a classmate to review your paper. The second look is the best solution.

  9. Quotes There are so many inspirational quotes from the greatest people of all time but they are not your own words and won’t show the committee what person you are.

  10. Hyperboles There is no place for exaggerations in a successful master’s program personal statement. No lies as well! Sooner or later, you will be found out.

  11. Plagiarism On the Internet there is plenty of masters personal statement samples but be sure that the admissions can identify if your content is original or copied from the web. It‘s not worth it. Don’t risk your education and reputation.

  12. Negativity Make your personal statement scholarship application positive! Don’t mention your failures or hard personal circumstances – unless you demonstrate how you easily coped with them and got a great life experience.

  13. Arrogance Trying to stand out from other applicants, don’t try too hard. If you’re showing off and present yourself as a great, outstanding and awesome person, it will push tutors away. Don’t write a list of superficial adjectives of what a wonderful person you are, but give specific examples of your experiences that built your personality (for example, it can be your biomedical science internships).

  14. Simply Listing When you simply list all activities you’ve done without descriptions, it becomes boring. Pick 2-3 of your greatest experiences and concentrate on them in science personal statements.

  15. Abnormal Sentence Length Too long sentences are hard to read and it’s easy to lose their sense. It will make your engineering personal statement long-winded and wordy. So break a long sentence into smaller pieces and let the admissions to feel satisfied, but not confused.

  16. Focusing on “big” achievements instead of “meaningful” Mention only those accomplishments that have made an impact on your education, career or the whole life. Write about turning points in your life that challenges you and helped you to grow. Relate it with your studying, how experienced you are thanks to your achievements.

  17. Not being specific Avoid generalizations that don’t contain meaningful information and won’t help the admissions make their decision. Be precise and clear.

  18. Mentioning information that already was given It simply demonstrates that you don’t have anything else to say and shows your lack of interest and desire. Keep your physics personal statement original and avoid repetitions.
