Things You Should Know RegardingColonoscopy Colonoscopy is a medical endoscopic examination procedure which enables the medical examiner to evaluate the inside the large intestine, large bowel (also called as colon) and some distal parts of the small bowel. During this procedure a colonoscope, a flexible, long tube of half inch diameter which has a CCD camera or fiber optic camera with a small source of light at one tip, is used. This tube is inserted inside the human body through the rear end to get the inner image of the colon.

  2. Generally, colonoscopy is done when doctor wishes to screen your large bowel and large intestine in detail. Here are some details about this procedure that can help you understand this process: It is usually done to identify signs of cancer It is done to find the presence of any polyp or any other signs of cancer in that certain body part. Apart from sending the pictures of rectum and colon lining, the doctors can also remove small polyps from there or can even take tissue samples of polyps for further examination. Special diet is suggested to the patient before undergoing this examination For doing colonoscopy, the colon should be absolutely clean and cleared. So, patients are given special diet suggestions along with a prescribed meditation to that can help in cleaning the colon. In general, liquid diet is preferred along with large volume of special cleansing solution so as to eliminate all obstructing residuals to get accurate result of the test.
