Does The Bible Predict / Imply Encoding Some Bible authors hint that information is encoded within the Holy text • In Jeremiah the peculiar word “Sheshach” is substituted for “Babylon” • (Jeremiah 25:26) “And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.” • (Jeremiah 51:41) “How is Sheshech taken! And how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!” • The former is an example of an atbash cipher • The first letter of the alphabet is replaced by the last; the second is replaced by the second-to-last and so on • An echo of this Jewish cryptography practice may be found in the synoptic Gospels, applied as a parable to individuals • Luke 13:30 “And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.” ©1995-2012; David Douglas Bell, All rights reserved

Source of The Codes • The dictation of the Torah to Moses by God • On Mount Sinai, Moses was instructed to write all the letters that God spoke and showed to him • When Moses received the Torah, he was shown a sapphire stone on which God wrote the words of the Torah letter by letter without spaces, capitalization or punctuation between them • Exodus 24:10 “and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity.” ©1995-2012; David Douglas Bell, All rights reserved

Inspiration of Scripture & The Spirit of Prophecy • The writers of the Bible “wrote as they were dictated by the Holy Spirit”: • “The apostles, as personated by these lying spirits, are made to contradict what they wrote at the dictation of the Holy Spirit when on earth. They deny the divine origin of the Bible, and thus tear away the foundation of the Christian's hope, and put out the light that reveals the way to Heaven.”-The Great Controversy, page 558. • “The inspired writers did not testify to falsehoods, through fear that the pages of Sacred History would be clouded by the record of human frailties and faults. The scribes of God wrote as they were dictated by the Holy Spirit, having no control of the work themselves. (Additional comments in the slide notes area...) • What should we do if there is a conflict between what the Biblical text says and what Ellen White wrote? • Ellen herself explains: “The Spirit was not given—nor can it ever be bestowed—to supersede the Bible; for the Scriptures explicitly state that the word of God is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. Says the apostle John, ‘Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.’ 1 John 4:1. And Isaiah declares, ‘To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.’ Isaiah 8:20”-The Great Controversy (1888), page e. ©1995-2012; David Douglas Bell, All rights reserved

Inspiration of Scripture & The Spirit of Prophecy (Cont.) • Paul states that “all scripture”, in the larger framework of his epistles, included both the Old and New Testaments (I Thessalonians 2:13, 1 Corinthians 2:13; 7:25 & 40; 11:2 & 23), was “God-breathed”-Ellen White Under Fire, (Jud Lake-2010) page 93. • “This phrase [God-breathed] indicates that not part but all of the Scriptures were inspired. Yet, these humans were ‘moved by the Holy Spirit.’ The word Peter uses here for ‘moved’ is pheromenoi, which suggests the idea of being carried along by the Holy Spirit. Hence, he underscores the fact that human beings wrote Scripture under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. How The Codes Work • Equidistant letter sequencing (ELS) is well known in the world of cryptography. • A letter is found, then after counting a specific number of letters another is read, and then after counting an equal number of letters another is read, and then another in the same manner,… • Grant Jeffrey states in The Mysterious Bible Codes that as the researchers continued to study the phenomenon they discovered that “...these coded words were interlaced in intricate patterns in the text at evenly spaced intervals, reading both forward and backward. The scientists realized that these ELS encoded letters formed words and associations of such complexity and intricate design that it was impossible that the letter patterns could have occurred by random chance.” • Even Sir Isaac Newton was a Bible code researcher. ©1995-2012; David Douglas Bell, All rights reserved

The following is an example of ELS encoding: “The Bible codes are very good to show that the word of God, the Bible, is not the doctrine of man, but is trustworthy and that this document contains solid proof of its authenticity. The font “Courier New” is used. This dictates that each letter uses exactly the same amount of space. Now we can “run with the message” or easily read it. Bell Research Laboratory Code Validation Criteria • To validate a Bible code matrix, the search terms, and encoded messages must pass our three level consistency check: • Each decoding stages' inputs and findings are checked for associations and/or relationship inconsistencies with the following sources: • 1) The Holy Bible, • 2) The Spirit of Prophecy (Ellen G. White's prophetic writings), • 3) Previously validated Bible code matrices • If all three criteria are met, without violation, the code matrix is considered valid.   22. Methods of Encoding Is the text of the Bible encoded by methods other than ELS? Yes, many different encoding mechanisms have been used; a few of them are: • Atbash-A substitution cipher in which the first Hebrew character is substituted for the last, and so on. • ELS- Read a starting letter, then counting an equal number of letters another is read, and then another in the same manner. • Albam-Alphabet is split into two halves and equates the two halves. • Gemetria-Equivalent Hebrew characters’ numerical values are added together. • Mosaic-ELS encoding that form pictures in the Bible code matrix layout. • Alternative Spacing-Spaces within the plain text of the Bible are moved to alternate locations • Text Reversal-Plain text of the Bible is read backwards. (See slide notes...) • Music-Each Hebrew letter is also a musical note • Surface Text Relevance-Text of the Bible, where encoded letters touch, is topically relevant/related to the encoded messages that lie beneath. ©1995-2012; David Douglas Bell, All rights reserved

  23. Answering the Skeptics • The most common objection to the codes is: • “Are codes found in other books? Maybe the effect exists in all literature?” • The figure below shows the longest code found in the book “War and Peace”(biblecodedigest.com) • On the bottom of the graphic, some of the encoded messages depicted in this book are shown • The messages encoded within the holy Bible are at least three times longer than the longest Hanukah code, which is only seven letters long • The longer the word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph is the less likely it is to occur by random chance. Answering the Skeptics (Cont.) • The writings & manuscripts that eventually became the Bible were passed through time and cared for. • Specific scholars and scribes were chosen to maintain a single text of the Torah; these men were called Masoretes. It is interesting that they paid the greatest attention to the minutiae of detail and such marks attached to each consonant throughout the entire text. They even numbered every letter, word, sentence, paragraph, chapter, section, and scroll to insure that the total equaled that of the text being copied before allowing it to enter the holy synagogue.--http://www.bible-history.com/backd2/jot_tittle.html • Ellen White wrote, that God chose to “communicate His truth to the world by human agencies”; but as we noted previously, the entire work of the Bible was and is under the control of the Holy Spirit and that the scribes had “no control over the work themselves.” • “God has been pleased to communicate His truth to the world by human agencies, and He Himself, by His Holy Spirit, qualified men and enabled them to do this work. He guided the mind in the selection of what to speak and what to write. The treasure was entrusted to earthen vessels, yet it is, nonetheless, from Heaven.   25. Answering the Skeptics (Cont.) • Yes; this requires faith. The same faith required to know that the scriptures are inspired by God so that we may base our religion on them and have a path that leads to God. • Faith, I believe, is part of the great test to see if we are worthy of heaven. This includes faith in the Bible: • Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” • “The law of God in the sanctuary in heaven is the great original, of which the precepts inscribed upon the tables of stone and recorded by Moses in the Pentateuch were an unerring transcript. Those who arrived at an understanding of this important point were thus led to see the sacred, unchanging character of the divine law. They saw, as never before, the force of the Saviour’s words: ‘Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law.’ Matthew 5:18. The law of God, being a revelation of His will, a transcript of His character, must forever endure, ‘as a faithful witness in heaven.’ Not one command has been annulled; not a jot or tittle has been changed. Says the psalmist: ‘Forever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven.’ All His commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever.’” Psalms 119:89; 111:7 & 8. Answering the Skeptics (Cont.) • Critics claim Bible codes are false and cannot exist: • The Dead Sea Scrolls are not the same as the • traditional (Masoretic) text • The Masoretic text was written after the dead sea scrolls • The dead sea scrolls are fragmented and not complete • The dead sea scrolls use full spellings • Scrolls are more complete (Apocrypha as well as other works) than the Holy Canon • We claim Bible codes are new & deeper light / truth: • Canon of holy books was selected at a conference in Yavine • Holy Canon uses short spellings consistent with the Masoretic text • Markings were also added to the text to emphasize pronunciation of the SHORT spellings contained in the Masoretic text, • Holy Canon is directed by God & is intact (not even the, smallest part of letter construction should be added or removed), • ELS encoded messages exist within the text of the Bible. • SEE APPENDIX 1 FOR FORMAL MATHMATICAL PROOF OF ELS ENCODING OF THE BIBLE.   34. Encoded Information Exists Within The Holy Bible (1st Example: Isaiah 30:8-15) One night Ellen White had the following vision. She describes the mechanism for decoding, identifies Isaiah 30 as the area in the Bible as where this special hidden information is, and emphasizes the divinity and importance of the information and / or instructions that she relayed from God. “I was instructed that destruction hath gone forth upon cities. The word of the Lord will be fulfilled. Isaiah 29:19-24 was repeated. I dared not move, not knowing where I was. I cried unto the Lord, What does it mean? These representations of destruction were repeated. Where am I? In scenes I have represented that which will be; but warn My people to cease from putting their trust in men who are not obedient to my warnings and who despise My reproof, for the day of the Lord is right upon the world when evidence shall be made sure.   37. Encoded Information Exists Within The Holy Bible (2nd Example: Habakkuk 2:1-4) This message was given to the people immediately following the great disappointment of 1844. It seems to indicate that information already exists in the prophetic writings of Habakkuk that contains “interwoven” hidden information for the people of the last days to discover. “Interwoven with prophecies which they had regarded as applying to the time of the second advent was instruction specially adapted to their state of uncertainty and suspense, and encouraging them to wait patiently in the faith that what was now dark to their understanding would in due time be made plain.      Among these prophecies was that of Habakkuk 2:1-4...”-The Great Controversy, page 392. ©1995-2012; David Douglas Bell, All rights reserved

The hidden book IS there when the Bible is looked at from one perspective and IS NOT there when the text of the Bible is looked at from another (the traditional) perspective as evidenced when she held the Bible at a 45° angle. Looking at the Bible from an Equidistant Letter Sequence (ELS) perspective, IS the correct perspective / angle to which Ellen is referring that allows the “wise of these last days” to read and understand the hidden book.
