    38. Licensing for Windows Servers: What is KMS? You can activate systems within your own network. You must have a qualifying Operating System (OS) license in conjunction with Windows Marker (If less than 25 machines). You must meet or exceed the Activation Threshold (AT) of 25. It uses activation counts in a linear fashion. All activation counts are cumulative, not OS dependent. You can obtain KMS licensing easier than Multiple Activation Key licensing. It must reactivate every 180 days. It is less suitable for imaging.

    39. Licensing for Windows Servers: What is Multiple Activation Key (MAK)? You can activate systems on a one time basis using Microsoft hosted activation services. It can use two methods for activation: 1. MAK Independent Activation - Requires each computer to connect to Microsoft for activation. 2. MAK Proxy Activation One computer is a MAK Proxy that gathers information from multiple computers and licenses them with Microsoft on their behalf using the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT). It is more suitable for imaging.
