  2. THE FIELD FIELD MARKINGS PLAYER POSITIONS

  3. DRIBBLING The art of moving the ball on the ground while protecting it from opponents’ tackles. It is a skilled combination of body movements, often performed at high speeds.

  4. TACKLING The act if taking away, blocking, or stealing the ball from an opponent by using one’s feet.

  5. HEADING The act of striking the with the head.

  6. JUGGLING With good juggling skills, players will make better passes, beat defenders more easily, and be able to hold the ball against defensive pressure, because of better touch on the ball. Keeping the toe pointed upward, helps maintain ball control when juggling off the top of the foot. Soccer juggling is great exercise to develop touch with the soccer ball. When juggling, you learn to control the body. Being able to make quick, body adjustments with all muscles is developed through juggling.  Better balance will enable a soccer player to move to the right, while maintaining balance to shoot the ball to the left, and vice versa. Juggling is fun and can be done anywhere. It gives a player a feel for the ball.

  7. KICK OFF The game is started with a place kick at the half-way line within the center of the field. The kick-off can only be taken after the referee’s signal indicating that all players are on their respective side of the field and opponents are 10 yards away – out of their side of the kick-off circle. The ball must move forward. The first kicker may not touch the ball again until another player touches it, or there would be an indirect kick for the opponents.

  8. THROW - IN The throw-in is awarded when the whole ball passes over the touch line, either on the ground or in the air. Both feet must stay on the ground Stand on or behind the touch line Ball must go behind the head Must use both hands equally cannot use one hand & if there is a lot of spin the referee may call an improper throw and award the opponents a throw-in

  9. DIRECT KICK Direct kicks are used to restart play following a physical violation of the rules such as: Tripping Pushing Jumping Striking Kicking Holding Hand Ball Tackling or Charging offenses The player taking the kick may shoot the ball directly into the net and score. Players may request that defenders are 10 yards away from them at the time of the kick.

  10. INDIRECT KICK Indirect kicks are used to restart play following more technical violations such as: Obstruction Dangerous Play Goal Keeper Interference Misconduct Offside The ball must be touched by another player after it is kicked in order for a goal to be scored. Players may request that defenders are 10 yards away from them at the time of the kick.

  11. GOAL KICK When the ball goes out of bounds over the end line and was last touched by the attacking team, it is put back into play by the defending team, who may place it anywhere on their Goal Box and then kick it. The kicked ball may not be touched again by anyone on either team until it clears the Penalty Box and the other team must stay outside the Penalty Box until the ball clears the Penalty Box.

  12. CORNER KICK Restart of play when the ball crossed the goal line, without a goal being scored, after having been last touched by a defensive player. This is a direct free kick taken by the attacking team from the corner of the field on the attacking end.

  13. DROP BALL The dropped ball occurs when the referee stops the game for a double violation with opponents, an injured player, a defective ball, or some sort of external interference. The game is restarted with the ball being dropped from shoulder height in front of two players who will battle for possession. Players will stand facing the goal they are attacking. The players may not kick the ball until the ball touches the ground.

  14. SHOT ON GOAL Check this out! When taking a shot at the goal, look at your point of aim. Do not look at the keeper, look where you want to ball to go.

  15. KEEPER SAVE Use your body as a barrier. Move fast and clear the ball well. Outlet passes go to weak side. Clear the ball high and wide.
