5. Africa • Major challenges face Africa today, including conflict, corruption, debt, poverty and poor leadership. Many communities are dealing with the impact of HIV/AIDS and some areas are increasingly affected by drought and famine. While much of sub-Saharan Africa claims to be Christian and there is a thirst for the Word, many people remain unreached by the gospel, particularly in the north and in areas where Islam is dominant • Pray: • For persecuted believers, particularly in places such as Eritrea and Nigeria • That governments will lead with justice and integrity • For courage and spiritual growth, as the church defends biblical faith against false teaching

6. Pray for unreached people who have not yet heard the Gospel

7. The Americas • A number of countries here are facing disruptive elections, economic decline and growing inequalities. Corruption, drugs, crime and poverty affect many societies, with the additional pressures of economic refugees from struggling countries. • However, Christianity is the majority religion, mission work in south and central America continues to thrive and evangelical churches have been established throughout the continent. • Pray: • For church leaders to be equipped in God’s Word • For the church to invest in training students in evangelism • For countries facing growing political and economic unrest • For increased support for mission workers

8. Pray for countries where being a believer can lead to persecution and suffering

9. Asia • Give thanks that church growth continues in Asia, supported by evangelical bases in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea. However there is also persecution of believers, particularly in those belonging to house churches in China and secret Christians in North Korea. Nearly 96% of Central Asia is unreached by the Gospel and there is much opportunity for evangelism to these nations. • Pray: • For peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula • For unreached people in Central Asia • For nations where Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim beliefs are dominant • For believers sharing their faith where proselytising is restricted or forbidden

11. Europe • Europe needs to hear the Gospel again. Increasingly, young people do not identify with any religion. In many European countries, Christian believers make up a small minority of the population. In some places, Catholic or Orthodox churches predominate while in others there is a Muslim majority. Unprecedented levels of migration, due to wars, persecution and poverty have led to new opportunities within Europe to share the Gospel with people from around the world. • Pray: • For effective discipleship and church growth • For GLO teams, resident workers and summer teams leading evangelism and outreach • For believers to seize opportunities to care for and witness to refugees • For the changing relationship between the UK and the rest of Europe

12. Pray for cross-cultural evangelism, as people take the Gospel to ethnic communities in the UK

13. The Middle East • This turbulent region continues to be affected by tension and war, suffering from Islamic extremism, violence against Christians and a rise in the number of people forcibly displaced or killed. Neighbouring countries’ infrastructures are stressed as they take in refugees fleeing conflict. In the middle of this volatile situation, more people are turning Christ, the Prince of Peace. • Pray: • For Bibles and evangelistic materials to reach people, even in these difficult situations • For people encountering the Gospel through respectful personal discussion • For peace in this unstable region and for an end to fighting in Yemen, Syria and Iraq
