  1. Adjusting the Female Receptacle • If your outlet box is recessed into the surface. • Or you are installing your fixture on an uneven surface. • Or you are not getting an electrical connection. Place the nut up against the crossbar as shown. ** By using the nut and screw combination you can adjust the receptacle in towards the outlet box or out away from the outlet box as needed.** Recessed outlet box Placement of Nut. Ceiling Surface. Secure the receptacle to the Jbox by using the 2 nuts and screws as shown.
