  2. Admiration and Appreciation Purpose • Atmosphere • Point of Reference • Adds an Artistic Feel • Provides information up for interpretation, an important aspect of San Francisco

  3. Why? • Visited Pier 14 with Dan Hodapp from Port of SF and took initial sketches of site location • Visited the Maritime museum and listened to speakers. • Stephen Canright (curator) spoke about the short history of San Francisco. • With that, we brought up ideas of the past combined with ideas of the present.

  4. Our Ideas and What We Discussed. • We had a large brainstorming session where we came up with many ideas… • Such as: • Possible “Before and after” tiles • Steamer ferry boats • Gold Rush sketches • Buried ships underneath the many buildings of downtown San Francisco • The Ferry Building • Seawall and aquatic life in the bay

  5. DECISION • What we came up with was the theme of “Emblems by the Bay” • Too difficult to render “before and after” images of Bay • Instead we chose individual images with common theme of Bay

  6. SKETCHES • Conducted research on agreed-upon terms to find: • HISTORY • SIGNIFICANCE • CONNECTION TO SF • Created sketches in representation of each term • Here they are!
