MAF/TIGER Accuracy Improvement Program (MTAIP) • Objective 1: • Correct locations of streets, other map features, and housing units; identify new streets/housing units using automated change detection methods • Decision was made to enlist the assistance of a contractor or a consortium of contractors to undertake this Objective

MAF/TIGER Accuracy Improvement Project • Next Steps: • Phase 1: (Underway) • Census Bureau staff working with Harris Corporation staff to detail out the production requirements • Phase 2: • Census develops/continues partnerships with state/local/tribal governments • Harris performs work for all 3200+ counties and completes initial work by FY 2008. • Change detection/maintenance for counties completed early in the process

MAF/TIGER Accuracy Improvement Project • Importance to State/Local/Tribal Governments • Will put the Census Bureau on the same base as the state/local/tribal GIS data bases where they exist, have the spatial accuracy to use with GPS, and provide them to the Census Bureau • Will enable easier exchange of spatial information between state/local/tribal governments and the Census Bureau (Boundaries and Features) • Road and Governmental Unit Boundaries will be provided to the National Map
