Demographic data • Data are seven demographic characteristics of 49 countries; the variables are • Infant death per 1,000 live births • # of inhabitants per physician • Population per square kilometer • Population per 1,000 hectars of agricultural land • Percentage literate of population aged 15 years and over • # of students enrolled in higher education per 100,000 population • Gross national product per capita • Assignment according to less developed (0 or U), industrial (1 or I) or Eastern European (2 or E) country is also given. • Data are compiled from Gunst and Mason (1980), Regression Analysis and Its Application: A Data-Oriented Approach, New York: Marcel Dekker, p. 358.

  3. Get the data

  4. The Workbench Select the predefined set X

  5. Autoscale the data Instant effect on the plot

  6. Select sample on plot Click on:

  7. Select on plot Click on curve between points You can also click in the list box and then the curve(s) will be highlighted in the plot

  8. Calculate a PCA Click Calculate

  9. Click OK to continue The model is seen in the model list

  10. Plot Scores

  11. Want to locate Denmark? Select Denmark in the list box Click on an empty spot inside the plot to de-select everything

  12. Color according to variable Select Continous

  13. Select U/I/E Histogram of U/I/E variable

  14. Copy the plot directly to PowerPoint

  15. The result in PowerPoint LatentiX version 1.00 (18-Oct-2006 14:39:58)

  16. If you want to export the numbers to Excel Then open Excel and choose [Edit – Paste] or CTRL-V

  17. The result in Excel

  18. Go back to the score plot Select Singapore and Hong Kong

  19. Recalculate without marked

  20. Click OK and the new score plot pops up Choose the same coloring as before

  21. Save the file inclusive the model(s) THE END
