Esophageal Cancer_ Study on it's Caused and how it can be diagnosed

The esophagus is a long tube of muscle that runs from the throat to the stomach. The esophagus is made up of several layers of muscle that contract to carry food through a tube into the stomach. A special muscle called the esophageal sphincter acts like a valve and flows from the esophagus into the stomach when food and fluid open.

  1. Esophageal Cancer: Study on it's Caused and how it can be diagnosed The esophagus is a long tube of muscle that runs from the throat to the stomach. The esophagus is made up of several layers of muscle that contract to carry food through a tube into the stomach. A special muscle called the esophageal sphincter acts like a valve and flows from the esophagus into the stomach when food and fluid open. Esophageal cancer is not common, despite being among the top 10 most common cancers in the world. The new incidence of this cancer in the United States is about 4.2 per 100,000 population, the number of new cases in 2018 is estimated at 17,290, and the number of deaths is estimated at 15,850 people. The 5-year survival rate for people with this cancer was 19.2% from 2008-2014. In 2015, an estimated 47,284 people in the United States were diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The exact cause of esophageal cancer is unknown, but there are several risk factors for the disease. Risk factors for esophageal cancer are: Elderly: Esophageal cancer is more common in people over 60 than in people over 60. Gender: Men are three times more likely to get the disease than women. Ethnicity: Squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus is more common in African Americans and Asians. Adenocarcinomas are more common in eggs. Smoking: This includes smoking and smokeless tobacco. Alcohol Abuse: Chronic or excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk of esophageal cancer. Barrett's esophagus and chronic acid reflux: Barrett's esophagus is an alteration in the cells of the esophagus caused by chronic untreated acid reflux. Even without a beard esophagus, people with long-term heartburn are more likely to develop esophageal cancer. Human papillomavirus (HPV): In areas of the world where esophageal cancer rates are high (such as Asia and South Africa), HPV infection increases the risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus. HPV is a common virus that can cause tissue changes in the vocal cords, mouth, hands, feet, and genitals. Other Conditions: Other diseases are linked to esophageal cancer. These include acalacia, a rare disease that causes difficulty swallowing, and typhoid, a rare genetic disease that causes

  2. excess skin to grow on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Occupational exposure to certain chemicals: Individuals who have been exposed to detergents for long periods of time are at risk of developing esophageal cancer. History of cancer: People who have had neck or head cancer are more likely to develop esophageal cancer. How is esophageal cancer diagnosed? Your doctor will ask about your medical history, including current symptoms. After a physical exam, your doctor may order tests to diagnose and evaluate esophageal cancer. The barium swallow uses a special series of X-rays to visualize the esophagus. The patient drinks a liquid containing barium, which makes the esophagus more visible on the X-ray. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is a procedure that allows a doctor to look into the esophagus with a thin, clear tube called an endoscope. To perform the test, the endoscope is inserted into the esophagus through the mouth and throat. Endoscopy can also be used to remove obstructions. The doctor may insert a balloon to enlarge the blocked esophagus. Viewing the esophagus and upper stomach is called upper endoscopy. Biopsy: During an esophagus, your doctor may take a small sample of tissue and examine cancer cells under a microscope. Laparoscopic ultrasound uses sound waves to create images of internal structures. In this procedure, ultrasound is done through an esophagoscope. VOCP is a cancer support community that spreads the updates and cancer patient stories on its portal to educate other people.
