Matter and Atomic Structure • Dmitri Mendeleev: Feb 8, 1834 – Feb 2, 1907 • Russian chemist who developed the periodic classification of the elements. • Found that when all the known elements were arranged in order of increasing atomic weight, later set up to be in accordance with atomic number. • This allowed for the Periodic Table of Elements (Periodic Chart) to display elements in a recurring pattern, or periodicity, of properties within groups of elements. • Even left gaps in places where he believed unknown elements would find their place.
