  2. “Only One Said Thanks” 11Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance (Luke 17:11-12)

  3. “Only One Said Thanks” 13and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. (Luke 17:13-15)

  4. “Only One Said Thanks” 16He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan. 17Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? (Luke 17:16-17)

  5. “Only One Said Thanks” 18Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” (Luke 17:18-19)

  6. “Only One Said Thanks” Introduction • Luke 17:11-19 is an historical account about Jesus healing ten people all at the same time. • He healed them even though he knew that nine out of ten were never going to say “thank you.”

  7. “Only One Said Thanks” • People forget to be grateful, but God never forgets to be merciful and kind. 11Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. (Luke 17:11)

  8. “Only One Said Thanks” • Jesus walked into a border zone. • Yet Jesus went there on purpose. • If they were ever going to be healed, it was going to be because Jesus went to them.

  9. “Only One Said Thanks” • 10“the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost”. (Luke 19:10)

  10. “Only One Said Thanks” • Jesus didn’t just travel to the border-lands in Palestine. • He is in our borderlands too and He has a plan to find you.

  11. “Only One Said Thanks” • 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance. • 13and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” (Luke 17:12-13)

  12. “Only One Said Thanks” • 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

  13. “Only One Said Thanks” • They didn’t have to yell out. • Jesus already knew them. • 14When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. (John 17:14)

  14. “Only One Said Thanks” • Jesus told them to do something practical. “Go, show yourselves to the priests.”

  15. “Only One Said Thanks” • This is what happens when we obey Jesus Christ: • We don’t lose anything. • We gain everything. • It is at the moment of obedience that our lives change.

  16. “Only One Said Thanks” • 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. • 16He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him -- and he was a Samaritan. (Luke 17:15-16)

  17. “Only One Said Thanks” • I WANT TO BE THAT ONE, DON’T YOU????? • There is something even better than miracles and health. • It isn’t enough to go to church. • It isn’t enough to get healed. • We want a church characterized by gratitude.

  18. “Only One Said Thanks” • 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?18Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” (Luke 17:17-18)

  19. “Only One Said Thanks” • BUT JESUS STILL TRAVELED TO THAT PLACE AND HE STILL HEALED ALL TEN. • 45 “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45 )

  20. “Only One Said Thanks” • 8“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2)

  21. “Only One Said Thanks” • How do you measure God’s mercy? • You measure God’s mercy with the cross. • GOING OUT SEEKING THE LAST, THE LOST, AND THE LEAST. • 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” (Luke 17:19)

  22. “Only One Said Thanks” • God wants you and me to practice mercy which is not based on our PERCEPTION OF POTENTIAL, GRATITUDE or REPAYMENT by those who benefit.

  23. “Only One Said Thanks” • 19 We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19) Conclusion
