What are Atoms?

Atoms are very tiny particles that form the building blocks for all matter

What Does a Microscope Do?

  • A microscope is used to look at very tiny objects by making them appear larger

  • It is sort of like a telescope or binoculars

Just What Size Is an Atom?

Let’s do a little exercise!!

  • What you’ll need

    • A strip of paper

    • A pair of scissors

  • What to do

    • Take your strip of paper and cut it into equal halves

    • Cut one of the remaining pieces of paper into equal halves

    • Repeat!

How Many Atoms Are In A Person?

Around …

8,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

that’s …

eight million-million-million-million-thousand atoms

What are Molecules?

Molecules are very small objects that are made up of connected atoms

What Do Molecules Look Like?

Molecules can take on all kinds of different shapes and sizes

Let’s look at a few!
