Water UK works on behalf of UK water and wastewater operators at National and European levels and where appropriate at international level.We work with Government, Regulators and Stakeholders' organisations to develop and implement a sustainable water policy for the benefit of the operators, their customers and the UK.

    4. 19 May 2005 W4H - EPDWA AGM Drinking water quality European Directive and National Regulations New regulations from 2004 Independent regulation by DWI / DWQRs Annual reporting of drinking water compliance – (Chief Inspectors Report – 6 July) Major investment – treatment and networks Sampling and analysis – 2.9 million tests Compliance of 99.88% (in 2003) This really describes how we’re taking forward work of SP Two Approaches 1/ The Internal Developing Water UK – ensuring it meets needs of the Industry & Members 5-10 years on 2/ External Working closely with our Stakeholders - one of Recommendations from SP Covered in outline at Nov Council – some issues raised Since discussed with ERG / will bring back to Council TODAY – Going to cover Internal Approach only Process Briefly describe process used internally to “distil” the outputs produced by Council in their Scenarios and captured by Hugh I’ll then describe how we went on to identify the Implications then the Challenges for Water UK and I&L. Because of time I won’t cover all slides in detail.     6. 19 May 2005 W4H - EPDWA AGM The Water for Health Alliance Clear Aims To raise the profile of good hydration in health policy and health education, and To make good drinking water more accessible to everyone in their everyday lives To promote the role of water as a primary nutrient

Promote PoU as “cooler of choice” Work together to help improve Access Awareness Perception and confidence

    20. 19 May 2005 W4H - EPDWA AGM Way forward Keep up pressure for better access in all education, care, work and public places Address concerns of teachers, hospitals, care homes and prison service. Support change in regulations for provision in schools Improve perception – both have part to play Water is one of six basic nutrients – but no RDA Lobby for Government backed recommendation
