Radical redesigns are a great way to transform your site into a beautiful new butterfly.

A new website design can be a huge success – or it could fail terribly.

After all, it’s a long and tedious process. That’s where checklists can make your job a whole lot easier.

Whether you’re working with an agency or designing in-house, this checklist will save you from some headaches.

But, I will admit, this is not your average workbook.

While many detailed and tactical checklists are available online, the one thing commonly overlooked – that can make or break your redesign – is how the website design will support (and improve) your overall marketing efforts. Your website isn’t a silo.

And it’s not just about design. Your website affects your social media, email marketing, lead generation, brand awareness and sales strategies.

That’s what this checklist solves for: turning your website into an inbound marketing machine for long-term success.
http://shop.unfunnel.com/product/the-ultimate-website-design-strategy-template-excel/.

 1. THE ULTIMATE WEBSITE DESIGN STRATEGY GUIDE Sectional Overview + How to Use the Workbook Whether you’re designing with a digital agency or working in-house, this step-by-step website design strategy template will help you thoroughly plan and track the progress of every digital experience in your website development game plan. And to make the many moving pieces of a website design a little easier to digest, we've segmented the process into 7 easy stages. Use the tabs below to navigate to each stage, and be sure to thoroughly complete stages 1 and 2 before moving on. (While stages 1 and 2 primarily involve benchmarking, content inventory, and important questions before you begin your web design, the latter stages are for tracking your digital design effectiveness while it's in progress - helping you be effective while also staying agile).\ Stage 1 - Web Strategy Stage 2 - Project Planning Stage 3 - UX / UI Design Stage 4 - Website Development Stage 5 - Optimization Stage 6 - Project Launch Stage 7 - Analysis & Testing CONVERTING TO AN AGILE STARTUP

 2. WEBSITE REDESIGN STAGE 1: STRATEGY 1) Benchmark Your Current Metrics. Number of visits/visitors/unique visitors (monthly average) Before you begin planning your redesign, document your current performance metrics using the fields to the left. If you don’t have access to this information, you'll want to add a tool like Google Analytics for better tracking and visibility into site performance. TIP: Keep note of which tools you used to determine these benchmarks. Ideally you’ll want to use the same exact tools when collecting post-design metrics – otherwise you’ll be comparing apples to oranges! Due Date ê Your Data ê x mm/dd/yy Bounce rate (monthly average) x Time on site (monthly average) x Top performing keywords (in terms of rank, traffic and lead generation) x Number of inbound linking domains x Total number of new leads/form submissions (per month) x Total amount of sales generated (per month) x Total number of total pages indexed x Total number of pages that receive traffic x 2) Determine Your Goal(s). Be really clear about why you’re doing the redesign in the first place and tie it to measureable results. Then communicate your goals with your team, designer, or agency. You can prioritize your goals and most business use a website for brand awarness, to capture business leads and to share resources. Due Date ê Your Answer ê Why are you doing the redesign? x mm/dd/yy 3) Define Your Brand. Due Date Before you begin crafting your content, be clear about your branding and messaging so that it’s consistent across your entire website. A new visitor should immediately understand what you do, how it relates to them, and why they should stay on your website and not flee to your competitors. ê Your Answer ê What is your business's message/unique value proposition? x Is it (message and/or branding) changing or staying the same? x If it is changing, what about it needs to change? x 4) Define Your Buyer Persona. Your website is not just about you. When a visitor asks, “what’s in it for me?”, speak to them in their language by designing content around buyer personas. Buyer personas are fictional representations of your ideal customers, based on real data about customer demographics and online behavior, along with educated speculation about their personal histories, motivations, and concerns. Click here to learn more about creating buyer personas for your business. ê Your Answer ê Do you currently have a clearly defined target audience? x Is this audience changing as part of this redesign? x Does your branding and content currently align with that audience? x 5) Analyze the Competition While we don’t recommend obsessing over your competitors, it helps to know how you compare. Take a look at competitor websites, and note what you like and don’t like about them. This is not meant to copy them, but to uncover what you can do better. TIP: Run competitor websites through our Marketing Grader so you are aware of their strengths and weaknesses. ê Your Answer ê Are there competitor sites that you really like? If so, which ones? x What are the top 3 most competitive keywords for your industry? x Who are your top-ranked competitors? x

 3. WEBSITE REDESIGN STAGE 2: PLAN A) Questions to Consider As you start planning your website redesign, ask yourself some of the questions listed to the left. Write your answers in the spaces provided. ê Your Answer ê Due Date What do I currently like and dislike about my website? x mm/dd/yy What is missing from the current website? x How does my current site compare to your goals? x What's the first impression I want to give my target audience? x Does my site currently convey a feeling of trustworthyness and authority? x Will this be a whole new website or are there small changes that can be made? x Will the domain name change at all? x What platform do I want my new website to be on? x What is a realistic timeline for this redesign? (Define a target date.) x What is our budget for this project? x Can we do this work in-house or do we need to hire someone? x B) Platform Considerations Do your research before deciding on a platform or CMS (content management system) for your new website.
