He was brutally honest and did not shy away from calling a spade a spade.<br>The first 100 days at work My first job after graduating from IIM Ahmedabad was as a<br>consultant with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). I was part of a three-member team<br>kick starting a global billion-dollar merger between an Indian company and a European one.<br>It was quite a daunting experience for a 24-year old. However, thanks in large part to BCGu2019s<br>training and grooming, and my own hard work, I was able to overcome the steep learning<br>curve.<br>Theworst mistake I made exposure to corporate boardrooms and CXOs early on in my<br>career made me get a bit ahead of myself. There was a sense of a u201cknow-it-allu201d expertise I<br>started carrying around. However, thanks in large part to BCG’s training and grooming, and my own hard work, I was able to overcome the steep learning curve. He was brutally honest and did not shy away from calling a spade a spade. Somewhere along the way, I learnt an important lesson on how to breed loyalty among team members. My biggest innovation I did one of our clients was a 150-year-old construction company. I was part of the team working on a business development strategy for them, helping them rethink their customer segments. I helped develop a sharper business plan for the company, narrowing its focus to a select few customer segments which would prove more beneficial. How I had fun at work I travelled extensively, both overseas and within India. Apart from this, I involved myself in several office initiatives — be it recruiting, fun events at the workplace or running the marathon on behalf of BCG — all of which were good fun. Work-life balance early on, I realised it was all about efficiency. I would work constantly during the weekdays, but make sure Friday evenings to Monday mornings were untouched and free for leisure activities. Back then, I was so strict about maintaining a worklife balance – now I can hardly relate to my old self.
