  1. ASBESTOS TESTING IN SUNSHINE COAST

  2. What is asbestos? Asbestos is the generic term for a number of fibrous silicate minerals. Asbestos is a type of building material used in the building industry between the 1940s and late 1980s. Before the health risks were known, asbestos products were widely used because they were durable, fire resistant and had good insulation properties. The manufacture and use of asbestos products was banned nationally from 31 December 2003. This ban applies to manufacture, supply, storage, sale, use, reuse, installation and replacement of asbestos. 3. Asbestos was commonly used in: • Cement sheeting (fibro) • Drainage and flue pipes • Roofing, guttering and flexible building boards (egvillaboard, hardiflex, etc.). Similar cement sheeting products are used today, but are 'asbestos free’ • Brakes, clutches and gaskets.

  4. Asbestos health effects? • Asbestosis • Mesothelioma • Lung cancer Source: http://www.deir.qld.gov.au/asbestos/general/health-effects.htm

  5. Asbestos Testing You can’t tell the presence of ACMs by just looking at them. But you can look for some signs. Signs that your house or working space may have contained ACMs include pipes that have gray or white remnants and old flooring tiles in a 9-inch by the 9-inch pattern. If you already found these signs, then you must immediately contact a professional contractor to perform sampling and testing.

  6. 3 Steps To Do The Initial Checking Keep in mind that when you see an ACM; you can’t saw it, cut it, break it, and not even scrub it. You need to handle it with care so that the fibre dust will not spread anywhere. You can follow this guidance to identify fibrous materials in your property: Identify the age of the building Look for the signs of damaged ACMs Make a wise decision to test the suspected area Read more http://asbestoswatchsunshinecoast.com.au/asbestos-testing-sunshine-coast/

  7. Why you need a professional contractor to perform asbestos testing in Sunshine Coast? • It’s hard to determine whether any material used for constructions has fibrous materials or not by simply looking at it. • Some people find dust and quick to conclude that they are asbestos. That is not the way to go even though the majority of buildings built before the mid-1980s are likely to contain fibrous materials.
