  1. Anti-Fungal Drugs; Work against Fungal Infections by Either Killing the Fungal Cells or By Inhibiting Their Growth Anti-Fungal Drugs are used to treat fungal infections, which most commonly affect skin, hair, and nails. These drugs work against fungal infections by either killing the fungal cells or by inhibiting their growth. Anti-fungal drugs are categorized as intravaginal antifungal pessaries, intravenous antifungals, oral antifungals, and topical antifungals. The reason why they are so effective in treating fungal infections is that they attack the mycotoxins that are present in the affected organisms. Mycotoxins are naturally occurring toxins produced by certain moulds (fungi) and can be found in food. Anti-Fungal Drugs inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol, which is a fundamental substance needed by all types of fungi for normal growth. The antifungal drugs also reduce the activity of certain essential genes. For instance, trimethoprim is used to treat certain kinds of urinary tract infections and staphylococcus aureus infections. Other antifungal agents such as fluconazole, ketoconazole, erythromycin, and cefdinir can also be used to treat fungal infection. There are three main anti- fungal drugs: terbinafine, different drugs in the azole group (ravuconazole, posaconazole, albaconazole, fluconazole, itraconazole,), and griseofulvin.
