Search engines have become an integral part of our day to day life. We use them for almost everything, as a learning tool, a shopping tool, for leisure and fun and also for business with the evolving field of e-Commerce. We are dependent on the search engine for almost everything that we do. But how do these search engines work? 1. How Do Search Engines work? Search engines have become an integral part of our day to day life. We use them for almost everything, as a learning tool, a shopping tool, for leisure and fun and also for business with the evolving field of e-Commerce. We are dependent on the search engine for almost everything that we do. But how do these search engines work? When you search something on Google or any other search engine, how do they decide what to show in the result and in what order should the show it. Search engines use software programs called crawlers/spiders, which are responsible for crawling through different sets of web pages and finding the relevant information that is publicly available on the internet. These spiders visit different websites using different techniques and create a list of all the web servers. They also keep the track of changes made to a website so that they know when new pages are added and old pages are removed. So, while optimizing your website you should make sure that you make the work of these spiders easier. This can be done by using specific key words in the website. Next step that the search engines follow is indexing. In this process the information identified the web spiders is organized, sorted and stored by using suitable algorithms, before made available to the users. Google likes it’s index to be like the index in the back of the book. SEO ( Search Engine Optimization) helps your website to appear in the first 5-10 positions of search engine result pages (SERPS), by optimizing your websites for the search engines in an effective and comprehensive way.
