  1. HOW TWO BROTHERS FROM PUNE CHOOSE ORGANIC FARMING IN INDIA OVER HIGH-PAYING JOBS? ORGANIC FARMING IN INDIA

  2. Organic farming in India is a growing trend that is attracting many people. Two brothers from Pune saw the opportunity that organic farming offers and made the most out of it. They took up organic farming over the high-paying job to earn lakhs per month. Let us explore the journey of organic farming by two Pune brothers in India! Education and Job Ajinka and Satyajit Hange saw how their father toiled in the fields. They completed their education from outside their village. After completing the MBA from Pune University, they worked for top MNCs. The two brothers worked for many MNCs like HSBC, DBS, Citibank, and HDFC for around a decade.

  3. What Made Them Switch? The two brothers visit their farm in Bhodani village, Pune, on holidays. The short visits to their farm developed an interest in farming among them. Their busy job life worked like a catalyst to raise their interest in cultivation. Many did not like their view when they thought of leaving their lucrative, high-paying jobs for full-time organic farming. Many near and dear ones advised them not to return to their village and toil in the fields as farming is not a profitable option. The two brothers followed their passion and instinct to do something different and excel inorganic farming.

  4. Why They Choose Organic Farming? Before getting started, the two brothers surveyed the local farms and fields in Bhodani village, Pune. The survey showed that most local farms have less soil fertility due to inorganic farming practices. They found the water level is not sufficient. They knew about organic farming. The two brothers met farmers who were into unconventional or organic farming to get practical experience. The two brothers started organic farming with two acres of land. They first grew native varieties of crops like desi tur dal or pigeon pea and pomegranate.

  5. Highs and Lows They experienced losses in the first four years of organic farming. They worked with street vendors and local markets to sell organic fruits and products. The two brothers distanced themselves from the retail chains. They worked hard to reach customers’ doorstep. Today, they have hundreds of customers, from organic food enthusiasts and top business tycoons to Bollywood-A-Listers. Organic Farming Method They knew the disadvantages of using chemical fertilizers or pesticides that affect the soil quality and fertility. The two brothers focused on using organic manure like cow dung and urine. They did not stick to single crops. Their organic farming included intercropping that combines dicot and monocot plantations. Besides heavily composting and mulching the field, they grow trees around the edges to retain the soil quality.
