CCT - Cyber Experiment Station • New Unit “CCT - Data Science Services” • Team Lead: David LeBauer – Director of Data Science • 2 App Programmers & 2 Research Programmers • Provide assistance to faculty conducting research computing applications. • “Data Science as a Service” • Backgrounds in Plant Sciences, Ecology, Remote Sensing, working with large data, R, Python, HPC/HTC, CyVerse • Contact datascience@cals.arizona.edu • CCT is tailoring infrastructure for use in research computing • Developing front-end applications to run large computing jobs on AWS and CyVerse • Building TomorrowLab – a collaboration between Stanford, ASU, MIT, Harvard and CALS. My RAINge Log • An easy-to-use tool to help you track your actual rainfall so you can better manage your land • Ranchers and land managers in central Arizona expressed a need for an online tool specifically designed around the type of infrequent, cumulative precipitation observations often collected at remote, rangeland sites • Local precipitation records support better management PI: Dr. Michael Crimmins, Dr. Mitch McClaran https://myraingelog.arizona.edu
Project Harvest • Engaging community members through citizen science about the health of their harvested rainwater, soil, and plants. • Problem: lack of information regarding the quality of harvested water. No monitoring programs. • Understand potential pollutants in harvested water might impact soil, plant, and human health • Promote Citizen Science in underserved communities • Altogether, 260 community members were trained, and 851 water, 137 soil, and 71 plant samples were prepared and analyzed in first year https://projectharvest.arizona.edu PI: Dr. Monica Ramirez-Andreotta
